Sources within the UCLA program praised Rosen’s attention to detail.

Again, though, does he win? And shouldn’t it matter how his teammates see him, since they’ll be the ones spending every day with him in-season?

Former teammates we spoke with who asked not to be named said it might have taken a while to warm up to Rosen, but by the end of this last year, we loved the guy.

And that matches with what one senior-level executive for an NFC team told me.

Should we judge a man by how he acted as an 18-year-old? Is that predictive of how he’ll be in the pros? Perhaps…if the same characteristics persist in his game.

At the end of the day, your teammates will like you if you win, one scout said. Period.

Philip, he’s still playing like a young man , Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn said, per Chargers .com. This is going to be his squad. If we bring in another quarterback, it’s definitely a guy we feel like can sit for a couple of years and play behind Philip and learn, and maybe be the future.

Yes, Lynn also gave the obligatory mention of the backups on the roster — Cardale Jones and Geno Smith — adding I wouldn’t look past those two right now. Eventually, though, a replacement must arrive for Rivers, whether its Jones, Smith or a draft pick. Rivers knows this, but he’s also not conceding his job anytime soon.

I’m on the board of New Jersey-based Write on Sports , which promotes writing, critical thinking and self-esteem in mostly at-risk middle-school students. The students are encouraged to become better writers by interviewing athletes and sports media people and writing stories about sports (which theoretically would interest them more than some other topics) in both after-school programs and in 11 summer camps.dolphins_079

Devils sign prospect Joey Anderson to entry level deal

The Devils signed forward prospect  Joey Anderson to a three-year entry level contract on Sunday.

The 19-year-old Anderson is in New Jersey and will join the NHL team on Monday. The first year of Anderson’s contract will count toward the 2017-18 season, so he will have two years left on his deal starting next season.

Anderson is eligible to play in the postseason with the Devils, who play Game 3 of their  first-round series against the Tampa Bay Lightning at 7:30 p.m. on Monday at Prudential Center.

When Anderson played with the U.S. National Development Team prior to being drafted, he shared a line with Clayton Keller and Kieffer Bellows — two players taken in the first round of the 2016 Draft before Anderson. Keller just finished his first NHL season, and his play earned him consideration for the Calder Trophy.

When those three played together, Anderson showed the ability to play with high-quality skill and speed, and it was one of the appealing things to the Devils about getting him in the middle of the Draft. Now the Devils will see if he can make an impact at the NHL level.

Anderson possesses the speed and offensive ability that could help make the Devils a deeper, more dangerous team, if he shows he is NHL-ready. The Devils have used several left-handed shots on their opposite side during the 2017-18 season, so Anderson would add another righty to line up on that side down the line.

Dak, who was thrust unexpectedly into the starting lineup as a rookie and who built confidence with a great running game and an offensive line that allowed him to work through his progressions until a receiver was clearly open, possibly never developed the comfort level during two NFL seasons to consistently throw what looked like a 50-50 ball, but that may have had a higher chance of success.

The Panthers also have an immediate need at cornerback following the Daryl Worley trade and the Bashaud Breeland free-agency fail. But Wynn and/or UTEP’s Will Hernandez need to be play with this pick as potential replacements for left guard Andrew Norwell, who left for the Jaguars. Wynn is the better overall prospect.dolphins_096

After regaining the lead, the Bolts opt to squib kick and that gives the Raiders good field position.

Jones has long championed Bryant and went out of his way to support him this offseason, but team executive VP Stephen Jones — in a crafty bit of father-and-son good cop/bad cop — emphasized in February that keeping Bryant around at his current cost would be “a tough one.”

In many ways, the Cowboys have made it clear this was a possibility, but it remains a stunning move for fans to digest. Bryant has been the lively, volatile, loyal beating heart of the Dallas offense since the start of the decade.

The Timberwolves, who won despite 12 lead changes, blew a nine-point lead the final minute of regulation last Saturday’s overtime home loss to. Both players have options free agency.Hartline seems bitter that Pryor is having some degree of success after just now switching from QB, something Hartline did high school.-‘s World Baseball participation is more difficult for the Twins than they initially believed.

Appeared seven playoff as the Indians advanced to the SHL semifinals before falling to Vaxjo. But its association with the progression of ALS inspired us to increase our efforts this field the past years. We did some walk-throughs, got some reps there and went against the defense warm-ups.

Dallas is sitting on 10 total draft selections as they try to rebound from a 9-7 season that kept them short of a return to the NFC playoffs. Although they are not too desperate at any one position, the Cowboys need to keep getting a jump on the eventual changes tied to age and expiring contracts.

We take a deep dive into what Jerry Jones and Dallas will and should be thinking come NFL Draft weekend.

Wide receiver: Dez Bryant, who turns 30 in November and has seen his play fade, was cut. Terrance Williams, a shaky No. 2, anyway, turns 39 in September and is coming off a broken right foot. With Cole Beasley, Ryan Switzer and newcomer Allen Hurns, the Cowboys have plenty of options in the slot, so the focus should be on a big-target replacement for Bryant and a big-play upgrade from Williams on the outside.dolphins_020

Latest On Steelers, Le’Veon Bell

The Eagles could look at running back Derrius Guice with this pick if he’s still available, but adding a top swing tackle would be a great luxury pick and a long-term move they’ll be happy they made once Jason Peters retires.

He left the Steelers in 2007, and the period in which he was accused of steroid and HGH trafficking did not overlap with his employment with the team. He was accused of acquiring more than 21,000 Vicodin tablets from February 2005 through October 2011.

Rydze was tried in Cleveland since he had been the doctor for the FBI in Pittsburgh, and prosecutors in Ohio presided over the long trial.

“Rydze violated his legal, professional and ethical obligations,” Justin E. Herdman, U.S. attorney for the northern district of Ohio, said in a statement. “He flooded Pennsylvania with dangerous painkillers and prescribed steroids to enrich himself.”

Rydze was also ordered to pay $32,390 in restitution and $18,300 in special assessments according to the statement from prosecutors.

An undrafted free agent out of college, Harrison signed with the Steelers in 2002 and began to make in impact in 2004, eventually ending up playing 14 of his 15 NFL seasons with Pittsburgh, twice earning first-team All-Pro honors and being named to the Pro Bowl five times in consecutive seasons from 2007-11.

He also was the 2008 AP Defensive Player of the Year in helping lead the Steelers to a Super Bowl victory. He was a part of the Steelers’ Super Bowl winning team following the 2005 season, as well.

He finishes his career with 84 1/2 sacks (a franchise-record 80 1/2 with the Steelers), 34 forced fumbles and eight interceptions to go along with 573 tackles and 222 assists.

Harrison played one season, 2013, with the Bengals and one game in 2017 with the Patriots after being released by Pittsburgh in late December.

Moving down from ninth overall would allow the 49ers to stockpile even more draft picks and still get a player they like in Vander Esch. The linebacker is oozing with potential, and the team can’t bank on Reuben Foster ever playing for it again.seahawks_031

Is Richie Incognito retiring or not?

Some of the biggest news of the NFL week came when Bills offensive lineman Richie Incognito announced he was retiring from the NFL because he was too stressed.

Turns out that may have been the case.

Incognito went on Twitter Friday and made a statement that seemingly negates his earlier declaration this week. He apparently isn’t retiring.

“That’s not even really the focus right now,” Gurley said. “Once you win that Super Bowl, they don’t have a choice but to pay you whether it’s the Rams or any other team.

“Once we try to put that together and do that, everything will take care of itself. Just focus on what’s next.”

For the Rams, that’s Aaron Donald.

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones met with Bryant for roughly 20 minutes on Friday, as Jones made the move without offering Bryant a pay cut. The Cowboys saved $8.5 million against the salary cap by cutting Bryant, the franchise’s all-time leader in touchdown receptions.

Prescott was at The Star working out with teammates when the news came that Bryant had been released.

“Dez is going to be a hard guy to replace,” Prescott said. “He’s a talented guy, so he’ll be missed.”

In an interview with NFL Network, Bryant insinuated that coaches played a part in his release as well as players he labeled as “Garrett guys” and captains.

The Packers must revamp their edge pass rush as they flip their base 3-4 defense to Mike Pettine’s watch. Either Landry or Marcus Davenport makes sense for their scheme as freakish athletes who can wreak havoc in the backfield.

Regardless, with an assist from his former Texans coach Gary Kubiak (now the Broncos’ senior personnel adviser), Keenum had become the apple of Elway’s eye with his less expensive price tag compared to that of Cousins, thus attractive to a team with limited salary-cap room. Elway built up Keenum as the player the Broncos wanted all along over the rest of the free-agent crop. Was this revisionist history at work by the Broncos GM after he knew Cousins was priced too high and was headed north? We’ll have a better idea about how much the Broncos love Keenum after we see what Elway does in the first round of the draft.seahawks_082

Bears schedule 2018: Chicago gets chances to establish itself as contender

The Bears’ 2018 schedule presents plenty of opportunities for Chicago to prove itself as an up-and-coming contender in the NFC. The home schedule alone features games against the Patriots and Rams, plus the usual slate of NFC North rivals.

In addition to the division games on the Bears’ 2018 schedule, fans will want to circle the date of the showdown against the 49ers as Chicago’s toughest road test. San Francisco, like Chicago, is ushering in a new era with a young quarterback and a relatively new head coach.

Bottom line: The Bears and new coach Matt Nagy have an opportunity to establish themselves as NFC contenders in 2018, and their schedule, even with a few tough games throughout, is manageable enough for them to pull it off. Second-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky’s development will be tested by tough defenses at times, but overall, he and the offense should have opportunities to flourish. Record prediction: 9-7

Below is a breakdown of the Ravens’ schedule in 2018. Baltimore’s regular-season schedule, including dates and kickoff times, will be posted after it is made available by the NFL.

Toughest tests: The road schedule is brutal. Tennessee, Kansas City, Atlanta and Carolina all made the playoffs last year. Baltimore lost four road games last season, and that included a 44-7 loss at Jacksonville. Joe Flacco’s home-and-road splits were almost identical last season, but he will need to be better if they want to go .500 in these games.

Biggest breaks: Pittsburgh, New Orleans and Buffalo are the only teams coming to M&T Bank Stadium that had winning records last season. The game against the Bills should be interesting given last year’s AFC wild-card race. The Ravens faced three AFC North opponents in the first four weeks last year but didn’t take advantage of winning two of those three games.seahawks_120

LOOK: Aaron Rodgers meets the Dalai Lama

Did Aaron Rodgers just convert the Dalai Lama into a Packers fan?

The quarterback met the Dalai Lama in India and was in a photo with the spiritual leader, who was holding a football and sporting a Green Bay cap.

… The Browns trade out of the No. 4 spot. If Cleveland finally gets their quarterback at No. 1 and another franchise has a quarterback in mind, the Browns could parlay that second first-round pick into a package that would add more impact players down the board. It’s a strategy Cleveland has used before, but the fact Dorsey has five picks in the first two rounds to work with provides the opportunity for some packaging. Given how active the Browns have stayed on the trading block this offseason, it’s a real possibility.

Despite the difficulties, Sarah revealed she gave birth to “small but tough” twin boys six weeks later. The pair, Marshall and John, spent more than a month in the NICU but were finally permitted to go home.

“Like any parent, obviously you want everything to go well,” Ryan told ESPN on Monday. “We’re not alone in having gone through this. I know other families, parents, children go through things like this all the time. You just want things to shake out well, and we’re fortunate that they did. Obviously your mind really never leaves there because that’s the most important thing in your life — your family.’

“I imagine you never feel like that as a parent. You’re always worried about something. Obviously things have went really well for us. I’m just happy that they’re home and healthy. And my wife is doing great, too.”

While focusing on fatherhood is his highest priority, Matt still has his sights set on getting back to the Super Bowl and coming out with a win after the Falcons fell to the Eagles in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs last season.seahawks_027

Landon Collins confirms he will undergo second surgery to heal fractured forearm

New York Giants star safety Landon Collins is facing a second surgery on the right forearm he fractured in late December that will likely sideline him until training camp.

Collins insisted Wednesday that he was not lying with that assessment of how he felt, and was surprised when doctors broke the news to him. He had been training without limitation, but tests showed his forearm is not healing properly around the plate put there in December.

And considering his physical style of play – he was injured while making a tackle – Collins could risk further injury if he continues to train without correcting the issue.

Collins has topped 100 tackles in each of his three previous seasons, earning All-Pro status in 2016. He said Monday he is not focused on his contract status.

“I’m just letting it just work itself out. I’m not really going through the negotiating part,” Collins said of his contract status. “I’m going to leave that between [general manager] Dave Gettleman and my agent and then go from there. From that point on, I’m just here trying to make new friends with my boys, new relationships and be a captain like I’ve always been.”

Collins and the Giants might have to wait until the summer to see him back on the field.

Jackson has sometimes been an afterthought in the draft’s quarterback conversation, which Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Baker Mayfield and Josh Allen headline. However, he remains a legitimate option for teams looking for QB help.

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reported Monday multiple scouts believe he will be taken in the first round.

The 2016 Heisman Trophy winner is known for his running ability, finishing his career with 4,132 rushing yards and 50 touchdowns. However, he has also done damage as a passer with 9,043 career passing yards and 69 scores.

His 57.0 percent completion rate has been in question, but it is higher than Allen’s 56.2 percent.la_kings_015
